Orla Kiely

This season Orla Kiely brought us a show full of flower power in true 60's form...and as usual was a delightful presentation. As you all know this is one of my fave eras so of course Orla is always one I look forward to as she never disappoints and always draws her audience in. The back drop was a glass screen with three women stood behind it in overalls painting petals on the glass. The models entered one by one carrying oversized flowers walking between plant pots then placing the flower into one. The collection was a mix of structured coats and relaxed shorts and dresses accessorised with floral appliqué bags and shoes courtesy of Orla x Clarks AW14. Thus the plantation of new looks for SS15 was a dream!

Whistles

Under King's Cross station inside a narrow tunnel is where the Whistles runway show took place...so cool! This season the collection was all about textures and fabrics combining monochrome tailoring, laser-cut leathers, raffia crop tops and holographic hues with a sports wear vibe. Bum bags were worn actually on the bum and footwear came in the form of chunky espadrilles. All very much ready to wear ensembles... bring on SS15!

ORLA KIELY

On the second day of fashion week, first stop was the very exciting, 'you never know what to expect' show of Orla Kiely, the queen of print. This season the ''OK'' girl was out of her typing pool, on a safari surrounded by fields and wild animals (in the backdrop that is!) Inspired by girl guides, brownies and Suzy Bishop, models strutted up and down the camping site, exploring the wilderness, catching butterflies inside jars, reading books and made a mere fishnet look oh so fashionable. Add to this a camp fire and the catchy tune ''The Lion Sleeps Tonight'' playing in the background made me want to jump into a cute pinafore and join them in the field....nope I've never been a brownie!

Tops and dresses with 70s inspired silhouettes in pastels and bright orange were adorned with animal motifs and worked with more animal shaped bags, signature print back packs and cute fluffy berets. Shoes were Orla Kiely for Clark's collaboration available from February 2014.

ASHISH

My second stand out show of the day had to be Ashish. This was a show I had always wanted to attend and when that festival inspired glitter wrist band (aka invite) arrived, I literally screamed with delight.  On arriving I had no idea what ticket I had (standing or seated) until I was directed to sit front row so got the best close up pics!
The King of all sequins drew the crowd in from the first outfit which stepped onto the runway, a Coca-Cola sequin vest, sequin striped carrier bag and ripped sequin jeans sported with a golden crown. His inspiration came from the idea of popping down to the off license with your slippers on and jewellery from the previous night. A fun and colourful collection filled with super luxe sportswear, stripes, animal prints, and mismatched socks stepping to the beat of Amerie's ''1 Thing'' in sequin slippers! M&S and Tesco lookalike carrier bags were drenched in sequins and replaced with logos such as S&M and Disco.  Seriously LOVED every minute of it, thanks again Ashish for an amazing show!

What did you think of these collections? Are you a sequins or 70s girl?

Yesterday I attended the Orla Kiely AW13 show on Day 2 of LFW and I can confirm she did it again.
For those unfamiliar with Orla's work, she is best known for her iconic, vibrant prints and focuses on the pattern eras, best known as the 60s and 70s.

This collection was based around the 60s theme but with a somewhat modern twist in scarlet red, pastel pink and mustard, contrasting delicate textures and dark tones .The highlight was a 3 piece daisy velvet jacquard combo, combined with overdresses, micro mini's and high waisted shorts. The outerwear was shearling (of course)  for added glamour and the models wore their hair in super voluminous updos!
The best part was the backdrop which really took you back in time for that brief period, set in a typing pool (that's old skool for office), the models, aka secretaries strutted up and down the catwalk while their *co-workers* typed on typewriters and rifled through paperwork.

With retro tunes playing in the background the collection felt magical, there literally wasn't one piece I didn't like and it really was (for me) a ready-to-wear range! Thank you Orla for allowing us to view once again a snippet of your vision!

Oh how I love the swinging 60s!!! What era is your favourite?
